Silk LaundryUnlike your Oxford shirt or LBD, silk requires extra care when washing. Follow these tips to keep your silk garments beautiful and soft for years.

After migrating to Australia in her youth, Katie Kolodinski launched www.saintgarde.com.au Silk Laundry in 2015. The brand prioritises quality and care throughout its design process.

Founded by Katie Kolodinski

Silk Laundry is an Australian women’s fashion brand that uses high-quality silk to create designs. The company recently expanded into Canada with a physical storefront in Montreal. The founder, Katie Kolodinski, has been shaking up the fashion industry with her gender-fluid designs and commitment to sustainability. She also is a mother and wife, a position that makes her incredibly passionate about her work.

Kolodinski’s inspiration for the brand started six years ago when she struggled to find dresses suitable for 35-degree Queensland summers. She turned to designing her pieces, which led to the creation of Silk Laundry. Her works are crafted from the highest quality silk. They are deed to be worn repeatedly company is committed to sustainable design practices and combines organic, recycled, and natural dyes.

When asked about her plans for the future, Kolodinski explains that she hopes to continue growing the business. She also intends to expand the Silk Laundry collection by adding new styles, including blazers and pants. She believes both men and women can wear her pieces and plans to use the same technique for sizing across all her works. She notes that this flexibility will allow consumers to buy the size they usually wear rather than selecting a specific fit.

Kolodinski is also focused on providing an exceptional customer experience. To achieve this, she has implemented a feedback platform called Okendo. The platform lets customers share detailed, personal feedback about their products and experiences. The platform has helped www.saintgarde.com.au Silk Laundry improve its service, and it has also helped the company make better decisions about its products.

Designed to be worn over and over again

With a brand ethos rooted in sustainability and care, the design team behind Silk Laundry seeks to create timeless styles that innovate on classic ideas and are thoughtfully made to complement and update the wardrobe staples you already cherish. Founder Katie Kolodinski is not comfortable with the speed of the fashion industry and has made it her mission to break the fast fashion cycle for herself and her customers.

She explains that while many silk garments are labelled dry clean only, this does not necessarily mean they can’t be washed at home. “With the right instructions, you can wash your silk with cool or lukewarm water and gentle fabric wash,” she writes in an Instagram post. “Just swirl around a minute or so, then squeeze out the excess.” (Be sure to check the fabric care tag first, as some silks are machine washable while others are not)

The trick is to find out how much you can wash your specific silk item, as different types of silk require very different care. For example, a silk charmeuse slip might be acceptable to throw in the wash, but you should probably skip the silk crepe found in many shirts—it is nearly see-through and will fade quickly. On the other hand, Silk twill can handle high temperatures and keep its shape even after washing. It is also an excellent choice for dresses and lingerie.

Another important consideration is whether your silk item is colourfast, as some dyes will run if washed. It is not a problem for most silks, but it is essential to test any new colours for colourfastness on a small section of the fabric before using them in a full-scale garment.

To make it easier for customers to determine what type of silk they own, Silk Laundry recently partnered with Okendo, an app that allows users to share meaningful insights about their product and shopping experience with the brand. Previously, the company used YotPo to collect customer reviews. Still, with Okendo, customers are invited to provide in-depth feedback about their product and www.saintgarde.com.au Silk Laundry experience—including what size they purchased, how it fits, how well it washes, and more. This data enables the brand to offer a more personalised shopping experience.

Embracing the journey of conscious consumerism

Silk Laundry’s Founder and Creative Director, Katie Kolodinski, is a pioneer of sustainably. She believes that a new generation of consumers places more excellent value on sustainability, transparency, and philanthropy than their predecessors. As a result, many brands are embracing conscious consumerism and shifting their production methods to reflect the needs of this growing market segment.
